Friday night brought another full statewide slate of Kentucky high school football as the regular season moved into October. The Oct. 2 schedule featured 77 games on the statewide scoreboard. As of the final verification for this article, 75 games had reported final scores, while North Bullitt–Moore and Valley–Waggener remained listed without a numerical final score.
The night featured several major statement wins, including Trinity’s shutout of Cincinnati St. Xavier, Boyle County’s convincing victory over St. Xavier, Frederick Douglass’ win over Male and Highlands’ victory over Covington Catholic. There were also important district results and at least two results that deserve special attention: Bourbon County’s 41-34 win over previously unbeaten No. 21 Lloyd Memorial and Daviess County’s 21-20 comeback victory over Central Hardin.
Bourbon County Knocks Off No. 21 Lloyd Memorial
One of the night’s biggest results came in Paris, where Bourbon County defeated No. 21 Lloyd Memorial 41-34 in a wild Class 3A District 5 battle. Lloyd entered the game 6-0, while Bourbon County came in 5-1. The game went down to the final seconds, with Bourbon County getting the final defensive stop to preserve the victory. The Colonels improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in district play, while Lloyd suffered its first loss of the season. Josh Kalb’s story for LINKnky.com.
Daviess County Earns First Win in Dramatic Fashion
Daviess County produced one of the most dramatic results of the night, holding off Central Hardin 21-20. The Panthers entered the game still looking for their first victory of the season. Central Hardin scored late to pull within one, but Daviess County stopped the Bruins’ potential game-winning two-point attempt with less than two minutes remaining. Quarterback Liam Carlson threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns, while Thang Maun rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown. Max Rayman’s story for Owensboro Times.
Boyle County Handles St. Xavier
Boyle County continued its strong 2026 campaign with a 42-13 victory over St. Xavier in Louisville. The Rebels entered the matchup ranked No. 4 in Kentucky’s Class 4A listing on the statewide scoreboard, while St. Xavier was No. 13 in Class 6A. The 29-point margin made this one of the night’s clearest statement victories. Bryan Ault’s story for Courier Journal.
Sayre Takes Down Louisville Holy Cross
The Sayre Spartans (6-0) remained undefeated and handed KHSAA RPI No. 1 Louisville Holy Cross (5-1) its first loss of the season with a 29-6 win at the Sayre Athletic Complex.
Isaiah King opened the scoring for the Spartans with a 39-yard touchdown run in the first half and later grabbed a 6-yard TD pass from Gage Pennington. Jordan Backers broke a 75-yard punt return TD.
Pennington added a short touchdown run in a game that Sayre, Class A’s No. 2 team in last week’s Kentucky High School Football Media Poll, controlled throughout.
Trinity’s Defense Continues to Dominate
Trinity remained unbeaten against Kentucky competition with a 41-0 shutout of Cincinnati St. Xavier. The Shamrocks entered the game ranked No. 1 on the Kentucky scoreboard and had already posted shutouts against Louisville St. Xavier and Male. Friday’s result added another defensive masterpiece to the résumé.
Frederick Douglass Wins the Male Showdown
Frederick Douglass defeated Male 28-17 in Lexington. The Broncos entered the night ranked No. 2 in Class 6A, while Male was ranked No. 25 in the statewide listing. The victory kept Frederick Douglass unbeaten and added another significant win to a schedule that has included several prominent opponents.
Highlands Takes Down Covington Catholic
Highlands defeated Covington Catholic 38-20 in a matchup of highly ranked Northern Kentucky programs. The statewide scoreboard listed Highlands at No. 3 and Covington Catholic at No. 6, making this one of the most significant ranked-versus-ranked results of the night. Other Central Kentucky Standouts
Lexington Christian defeated W.E.B. DuBois Academy 55-12, Lexington Catholic blanked Garrard County 49-0, Woodford County rolled past South Oldham 43-6, West Jessamine defeated Montgomery County 54-6, Sayre beat Holy Cross 29-6, and Scott County defeated Anderson County 35-7.
The Scott County result was independently rechecked after an earlier local recap listed a different score. MaxPreps’ game report and team report both confirm the final as Scott County 35, Anderson County 7.

Games Without a Reported Numerical Final
At the time of final verification, the statewide MaxPreps scoreboard still showed these two Oct. 2 games without a numerical final score:
Both games are listed as completed by game-streaming/score sources, but a numerical final was not available in the statewide score data used for this article. Rather than guess at a score, PrepSpin is leaving those two results unpublished until a final number is reported.
